COVID-19 Phishing Scam
We want to make sure you are aware of a current potential threat to your IT security. There has been a large increase in spam and phishing emails related to COVID-19. Hackers are sending out numerous emails that try to trick people with fake information related to the pandemic. Most of the emails look like they are coming from official sources (such as governments, the CDC, WHO or other health-related organizations) and are very convincing. These emails often have links or attachments that when clicked will harvest personal information, or infect the users’ computers with various malicious attempts.
- Awareness is Key – Currently we are just wanting to make you aware of these attempts. You should be very cautious about clicking on anything with a link or an attachment, especially related to COVID-19.
- Business Grade Antivirus – Most of these attacks will be blocked by a business grade anti-virus, but there will always be a risk, so staff education is very important.
- More Information – More information including additional examples of what a fraudulent email could look like can be found in these articles from CBC and BBC.
